Statement
Kiki Slaughter is a contemporary artist based in New York City. Her work is best described as an experiment with the fundamental process of painting. She pours, scrapes, layers and otherwise manipulates the paint on the canvas to produce works that are rich in both color and texture. The purpose of her work is to interpret the world through this dramatic interplay.
Kiki is inspired to paint by her visual surroundings. Thus, her work often evokes the places she has either lived or visited. She records her impressions of these personally significant places through her use of color and texture. Although her works are entirely abstract, each piece maintains subtle characteristics from its source of inspiration.
Kiki holds a BA in Studio Art and Art History from the University of Virginia and an MA in Contemporary Art from The Sotheby’s Institute, London.
