Statement

Zuzka Vaclavik’s new works on paper give the viewer a post-graffiti, bio-morphic, automatic gesture that leads us to a unique visual experience. These are intimate new worlds of wonder where the culturally familiar tags of decay mix with a micro/macro flip- flop- pulling the viewer into their world, tumbling through from one familiar reference into other strange passages of bio science fictions. The images seem to expand and contract as you experience the morphing of each piece. Psychedelic? Perhaps, but not like Peter Max. Lines grow out of new visual phenomenon like Google Earth, and then take a microscopic turn. These images transition and play. Does she show us a new menacing uber-virus, or a view that only Alice in Wonderland could imagine? It’s a bit of both- re-mixed into a strangely satisfying beauty.

Bio

Zuzka Vaclavik is an artist molded by her international experiences. She is a citizen of the United States and Slovakia as her parents escaped from Communist Czechoslovakia. Vaclavik grew up in Germany where she took art lessons from a Czech painter. Her passion for exotic new experiences led her to pursue her development as an artist in the Far East. She is engaged in a multi-lingual dialogue in her art where her various visual and personal experiences of her life come together. Vaclavik has exhibited her work in the capital city of Cambodia-Phnom Pehn and around the United States. After her travels in the East, Zuzka returned to the United States to receive her MFA from the University of Georgia in 2008.
